Welcome to our Class Blog!
 We'll use this blog to comment on readings for Chapters 1-3 of Blogs, Wikis, and Podcasts. By commenting here, you'll get practice in blogging while you go about the task of setting up your own blog. (See Blogging Assignment for guidelines).

In the right sidebar, I have included A Blog List, which will provide updates on each of your blogs. [Until you have set up your blogs, I am keeping a sample of several blogs from last Spring.]

Use the The Link List: Sample Teacher Blogs to find an example blog to comment on in the first assignment.

Blogging Basics

Settings
You can make various changes, depending on your needs. Do you want to:
  • Change the title, change privacy settings so the blog is not listed in search engines?
    Click Settings> Basic (and then make adjustments). 
  • Change permissions so that only certain people can read or post?
    Click Settings> Basic (and then make adjustments). 
  • Moderate comments?
    Then you need to click on Settings> Posts and Comments
Pages
You can add individual pages with content that doesn't change. These pages can have comments if you want. For directions on how to add pages see Help for Blogger Pages.
 
Feeds, Lists, and Blog Lists
You can add a blog list gadget, a feed gadget, or a link gadget. The blog list gadget and the link gadget  require you to insert URLs into the list. The feed gadget requires that you insert the actual URL for the feed.

RSS Feeds: An RSS "feed" is a way of identifying new articles on selected websites (not only blogs). Subscribe to these feeds by clicking on the feed button. These sites will automatically updated when they offer new content.  You can read the new articles in a Feed Reader such as Google Reader. You can also make them easily accessible on your blog using a Feed gadget.

  1. Go to Design>Layout>Add a Gadget>Feed
  2. Paste the URL of each feed into the box.
Blog List Gadgets:A Blog List is much more than just a list of links: it's a live view of the blogs that matter to you. By default, your Blog List will show the most recently updated blogs first. You can add to this list at any time by clicking on the edit icon.
  1. Go to Design>Layout> Add a Gadget> Blog List
  2. Click + and then indicate that you want to add a blog list. Then paste the address of each each blog into the list.
  3. Save the Gadget.(You can modify it and add more blogs later by clicking on the edit icon.)

Link List: A link list is merely a list of links to a set of blogs. You can add to this list at any time by clicking on the edit icon.
  1.  Go to design>Layout>Add a Gadget>Link List
  2. Click + and then indicate that you want to add a Link List.
  3. Paste the address of each URL you want to link to into the box.
  4. Save the Gadget.
